My little Chunky Monkey
Ok. I knew Emily was a little big for her age. It’s pretty obvious by now that she and her brother have taken after Chris in the height department (thank goodness!) But, dude, I wasn’t quite prepared for today.
34 3/4 pounds and 36 1/2 inches.
Doesn’t sound too bad? She’s two. That puts her at 95th percentile for height, and about 115th for weight. **115th!!!** Yikes.
The kid loves to eat. I don’t really feel as if she OVEReats, she just eats. And she eats well; not alot of junk food. She loves salads, vegetables and fruits. She’s addicted to dairy, namely cheese. And while, yes, she’d eat any candy put in front of her, a lot doesn’t really get put in front of her. Now that she’s two, we cut her milk down to 2% instead of whole, so that should help. She just grew, quite literally, overnight.
So why the heck I’m I freaking over this?
Seriously, I wanna cry. I’m SO terrified that my children, especially Emily since she’s a girl, will have the same weight problems that I’ve had all my life. Getting teased. The whole nine yards. Dude, I got picked on for being overweight when I only weighed 120 pounds. I’d KILL to weigh that now. Kids are mean. And I’m positively terrified that my kids may go through that someday. I constantly worry that they won’t be cool kids (but still with good heads on their shoulders). I hate worrying about such things. I know she’s only two, that it will probably even out in the next few months, that her height will catch up with her weight and she’ll slim back down again, that her clothes will fit just fine.
But I worry.

I worry the exact same way Tracey. So don’t think you’re alone *big hugs* Compared to his 2 cousins his age, Alex seems to be a porker too… and i worry constantly about him getting my metabolism. I’m sure they will be fine and we’re probably worrying for nothing! Plus.. she’s so darn cute… i just want to snuggle her up!!

Tracey, Emily is so adorable. Don’t fret over this. If you are concerned, ask if they’ll check her sugar/blood levels and thyroid to make sure it’s nothing like that first.
My oldest 2 boys have weight problems (and you know I do…obviously). However, I never show them any frustrations about their weight, just encourage activity and better food choices. Cameron gained his weight since we moved into our house, because the neighborhood isn’t too safe and he didn’t have any friends, so he did sedentary things like reading, drawing cartoons or playing video games and Legos. This year he has 2 friends and school P.E.- so hopefully the increased activity will help him shed a few pounds.
Hang in there and don’t worry about what other’s think.

Tracey-
She looks like an absolutely beautiful, cherubic toddler- just right for her height and weight. We all come in different sizes- I know that if my Maggie doesn’t catch up in size (other end of the spectrum) she will be teased because she is teeny. No matter what size you are- there is always teasing. You can be stunningly perfect looking and then you’re just “that tart” or “that bitch”. People are cruel.
Your daughter is lovely- and she is exactly who she is supposed to be. If, in the future, weight becomes an issue- she will be given the strength and the tools she needs to move beyond that. She’s already been given the best one- YOU for a mommy
